Hannah has spent years perfecting the art of looking fine.

She has the career, the apartment, the carefully rehearsed answers that keep anyone from looking too closely. But beneath it all, she is unraveling. Then memories she doesn’t recognize begin forcing their way to the surface, fragments of a childhood she thought she understood and warnings she had long since forgotten.

And then Astaroth appears.

She was taught to fear demons, but Astaroth seems less interested in tempting her than in making her remember. He offers no easy answers, only the unsettling certainty that something happened to Hannah long ago, and that the pain she carries may not have begun with her.

Desperate to escape the life closing in around her, Hannah walks away from everything and disappears into the heat and wild green of Costa Rica. But distance cannot outrun what has followed her through generations.
